Seriously... For me personally, here's what needs to happen for me in Batman 3:
...That one of the final scenes features a close-up of one of the windows of the Gordon household at night. We see a bedroom, there's the figure of a young girl sitting behind a desk in the dark in the pose of 'the thinker', with a worried look on her face. Then we see a shot of the sky above Gotham City and the Bat-signal goes on. The girl quickly looks up out of the window slowly moves towards the window, and now because of the streetlights outside we see what she looks like, like this:
Her name is Julia Batelaan. She's a Dutch actress, and yes, she's only 13. However, it is because she's 13 that i think she'd be perfect for this type of cameo scene. We saw Gordon's daughter in TDK, and my idea is that this could be used later in the series as a background for why Babs grows up to be Batgirl. I see the scene in TDK as an egg being layed, and what i'd really like to see is a scene like the one i just described, to let the Babs fans know that, in the story itself, that egg is slowly starting to hatch.
Yes, it's a total copy of the scene from Batman Returns with Michael Keaton, and before everyone tells me Nolan said there would be no Robin and Batgirl in his movies, and that Christian Bale doesn't want to continue when Robin shows up: I know all that, but since this topic asks for MY Batman 3 story, this is a huge part of my idea of a perfect Batman 3.
But now to the more standard expectations:
I appear to be one of few who is actually not interested in The Riddler as the villain for B3. I do not think he's the right character to follow in the footsteps of The Joker. The Joker is such an incredible Yin to Batman's Yang, that the Riddler would just come off as a poor man's Joker. I'm not in any way interested in seeing Batman having to deal with the Riddler on any of the levels that are currently popular. People say the Riddler would be great for a Batman investigation story similar to "SE7EN"or see the Riddler in a role similar to Hannibal Lecter, or Jigsaw from the SAW movies, just to have a film that shows the audience why Batman is called "The world's greatest detective".
Yes a Riddler in SE7EN/Jigsaw/Lecter style would make sense in Nolan's world, and YES, it would be a great test of Batman as a detective, but would it really make for a great BATMAN movie? I don't think so.
It's a great idea for a comicbook, but i don't see myself watching Batman walking around Gotham, questioning people, solving the riddles, crimes and murder cases, and looking for traces of clues about who "The Riddler" is for 2 and a half hours.
I also believe that if you don't make a Riddler story and character into a Jigsaw/Hannibal Lecter type of character, you really can't avoid ending up with a green suited campy character, with riddle puns like in Arkham, a la "riddle me this" and "Friddle widdle diddle, can you solve my riddle?"
No. I have no interest in The Riddler. Maybe later, and as a side character who helps to cause confusion for Batman to distract him from the real villain's super plot, like Ra's Al Ghul and Scarecrow.
No. What i think is extremely relevant to make this movie franchise the definitive Batman, would have to be Catwoman.
Not because she looks good in latex, but specially for this film, right after Batman has been confronted with the pure evil madness of The Clown Prince of crime, being confronted with someone who is neither good or evil, is the next biggest challenge, if not bigger, because in the case of Catwoman, love soon starts to play a really big issue, and i think that Batman Returns really showed us how the Bat and the Cat's basic psychology works. Nolan's Catwoman and Batman, due to the more serious and realistic take on the franchise, could focus much more on the psychology of Batman and Catwoman's attraction to eachother, and why ultimately, it could never work, or could it?
Catwoman adds a layer of emotion and the dark psychology that is in the nature of Bruce Wayne when he's Batman.
Also, yes, i am obviously listening to a lot of fan opinions on this, and yes, a lot of what i say sounds like the discussions from the podcasts of Batman on film. ...but i also am doing this because i agreed with all that long before they made their Catwoman podcasts.
I think Catwoman is the best option, and it is indeed because Bruce Wayne was in love with Rachel, but now he falls in love as Batman, and with a woman who's also in a costume. I'd LOVE to see Bale's Batman deal with that, because with Returns, i always felt like it ended before it truly began. The whole "My darker side is no darker then yours" psychological drama was amazing. I always felt like this is and always will be one of the best relationships in comicbook cinematic history, The Bat and the Cat.
+ Batman and Catwoman also give the audience some amazing fight scenes, that again, could be exploited into something much bigger and intense then that what we've seen in Batman Returns. I'd like to see the Bale Batman having to deal with fighting somebody he doesn't want to hurt, and dealing with loving someone he has to fight.
Also, i think that as for the maffia in Gotham, since we've already had Falcone and Sal Maroni, for the sake of continuity and realism, i think Batman 3 should feature Rupert Thorne as the big crimelord, and not The Penguin. If you take away the campy elements from the Penguin, you basically take away The PENGUIN, and are left with a short version of Maroni, Falcone or Thorne anyway, so why not just go straight for Rupert Thorne and ignore the sigarette smoking short guy with the pointy nose and the rainbow umbrella, right?
Also, i think in Nolan's world, if you make sure you take out the living plants and the chlorophyll skin, Poison Ivy could definately work as some screwed up botanist environmentalist naturalist gone extremist who wants to kill the human race with poisonous plants like how Ra's tried to poison Gotham with the fear hallucinogen.
Harley Quinn is tricky in live action, and i would have a hard time seeing her as the big villain instead of Mr. J's sidekick, but i could see her as some sort of right hand of the Joker doing his dirty work outside Arkham.
I say Catwoman, Rupert Thorne, maybe Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn, but no Riddler or Penguin for me.
I'd love to see Harvey Bullock, and also Leslie Thompkins, very much, in the new movies.
...but mostly, i'm just waiting for my 'Babs grows closer' scene.
