batgirltooracle.blogspot.com/2010/03/episode-5-batgirl-to-oracle-barbara.htmlIn this episode I discuss some Batgirl collectibles that are soon to be released, what topics I want Gail Simone to tackle, and who exactly IS Barbara's arch-nemesis? I review Detective Comics #371, Justice League of America #60, Brave and the Bold #78, and Batgirl #7. Finally, I round out the episode with my literature recommendation, the unveiling of the Batgirl to Oracle: The Message Board, and a special guest appearance by Bubba Moose!

You were very clos to a Bailey moment in there wondering if you should edit it out. I almost expected to hear:"Gosh Stella, do you think before you speak, I mean really."
I've really enjoyed this episode like the rest, now I really want to read that JLA issue, sounds good in a bad, but still good way.

You kept it positve (as you slapped her to the floor,) even with mostly mediocre issues. I learn something new in every episode. I Like this. I don't have too much more to soy, other than I'm always very happy to see (hear) Bubba Moose. Good job, Stella.

Listening to episode 5 (running behind, yes), and nearly spat tea over my computer at the words "mythological mimsy". Brilliant. I think the word "mimsy" doesn't get enough play in our crazy modern world.
Also, isn't an onamatpoeic sound using the letter 's' called sibilance? (i.e. "the snake spat, smirked and hissed", or something like that.)

Haha, oh yea, don't you call your friends a 'mythological mimsy?' Hmm, I'll have to look up sibilance. You could be right. I know in terms of linguistics 's' is a sibilant in terms of manner of pronunciation. I wish I had my poetry book with me and not in a box.

This is based on memories of English lessons from when I was 16, so I might be wrong. Think we were studying war poems at the time. Will have to try and get "mimsy" into a conversation tomorrow, but according to Wikipedia it's now slang for a predictable part of the female anatomy so will have to choose my moment carefully.

Hey, Stellz. Well, it's now almost a year after I started, and this is as far as I've gotten. Got distracted by other shows and things for a long time and just recently returned to a concerted effort to make my way through your episodes. You have a real good thing going here, and I'm definitely enjoying the episodes.
It's funny how girls of different ages can react to things differently. F'rinstance, Lily had just turned 8 when she read these stories last spring, and she has fond memories of them. She enjoyed that Batgirl was being girly, and though she does enjoy a strong woman most of the time, I don't think it dawned on her that femininity was being mocked in the story. Yet give her ten years, and I'm sure she'll see it much more as you or I would.
I definitely plan to keep listening, though I may take my time catching up. I'm just about up to the point in the late 60s that Lily and I have reached in our reading of Silver Age Marvels, and the OCD part of my brain likes the idea of reading Batgirl stories synced with that reading project. I know. I'm a dork.
See you around the podcasts.
