Alright so first, a little personal back story. I'm a college senior at University of the Arts in Philadelphia, about to earn my degree in Writing for film & TV. While I love to anchor my ship in TV (especially with some of the shows we got from 1999-now) I think I'm also a pretty decent movie watcher. So today, I got thrown for a loop. My teacher asked the class, what is your favorite movie of all time. And it wasn't that I didn't have a name in my head, it's just that this movie just seemed so ahead of the others that it didn't even seem fair. I've had along history with this film. I saw when I was a kid. Didn't really understand all of it. But as I grew older, I learned to love it. I can't tell you how many times I've seen it, but I've owned almost every incarnation of it (VHS, Single disc DVD, 2 disc DVD, and recently the Blu-Ray) it has one of my favorite actors, one of my favorite directors, based on a novella by one of my favorite novel writers.
Yup, The Shawshank Redemption. A film about friendship, hope, and (of course) redemption. I won't go too deep into this for I fear it'll come off like an essay, but if you haven't seen this film, it gets my highest recomendation. It's a superb film from acting, to writing, to everything. Don't let the fact that it's set in a prison fool you. For those interested, I'd also suggest the Stephen King novella that the film was based on. You can find it in his book "Different Seasons" in which also contain the novella's to a film called Act Pupil and the cult hit, Stand By Me (which King's novella is titled "The Body")
The film was finally put on AFI (American Film Institute) list of 100 top movies. I believe it was listed #80-something, sorry I totally forget the exact number. This was the scene they used for it
So I was just wondering what is everyone else's favorite film, if you have one?
