I know, right? I didn't even know there WAS a Batgirl: Year One in the works! This is what Bruce Timm had to say on the subject:
"'Wonder Woman’s' sales started out extremely slow and then over time were eventually able to catch up to probably 'Justice League: New Frontier.'" said Timm. "The Exec’s decided because it wasn’t able to sell quickly right away, whereas 'Justice League' was, that there wouldn’t be any more female super hero films right now. We were developing and hoping to get started on a 'Batgirl' film based on 'Year One,' but because of 'Wonder Woman’s' slow sales start, that won’t be happening now.
I'm seriously considering a petition! If I can get everyone who listens to BtO to sign it, I will personally send one into WB! Batgirl deserves some treatment, and I think, if done well, Year One would be AWESOME! Plus, if Babs doesn't get a movie, there is little hope for a Cass or Steph movie!

I agree, that is so lame. Wonder Woman was one of the better films they released to. Batgirl could be a very good. However I have little interest in seeing a Steph or Cass movie. So that isn't much of a loss. but if you start a petition, I'll sign for sure.

Batgirl: Year One would lend itself really well to a film so this is very disappointing news - and the reasoning behind the decision is just a nonsense isn't it?
Count on my support for sure.

However I have little interest in seeing a...Cass movie. So that isn't much of a loss. Awwww! Dude? Common! Cassandra Cain is the most under-rated, underexposed Batman-related hero of all time! And the fact that she hasn't had at least a minor role in any Batman-related TV animation/film yet irks the hell out of me! I mean, don't get me wrong, I love Babs but Cass seriously, SERIOUSLY needs a chance to shine AT LEAST a little bit.

a bATGIRL FILM WOULDN'T REALLY just BE A FEMALE SUPERHERO STORY ANYWAY; IT'S MORE OF A BATMAN FAMILY STORY FOCUSING ON A FEMALE SUPERHERO. aND i AGREE THAT wONDER wOMAN WAS ONE OF THEIR BEST FILMS SO FAR. I understand where they're coming from, with not wanting to do any more female superhero movies, from a marketing standpoint, but they should still go ahead and do it! i MEAN COME ON; IT's BATMAN--EVEN IF IT IS FOCUSING ON BARBERA--WHO WOULDN'T JUMP ON THAT! eVERYONE WOULD WANT TO SEE THAT--EVEN THEY ONLY WANT TO SEE A BATMAN MOVIE! i've GLADLY SIGNed THAT PETITION ;D!

Thank-you! The little petition is trucking along! I've done a lot of research concerning the numbers not only of the comic but the DTVs that have come out. I hope that I will make a strong and compelling argument on many levels!

Apparently the whole DCU animated movie thing has been canned. Most of them left because of these limitations and are now working on the new Green Lantern: The Animated Series. I believe that this summers Batman: Under the Red Hood is there last.

Apparently the whole DCU animated movie thing has been canned. Most of them left because of these limitations and are now working on the new Green Lantern: The Animated Series. I believe that this summers Batman: Under the Red Hood is there last. I doubt it--a sequel to Superman/Batman: Public Enemies has been confirmed, and there's really consistent rumors about a Batman: Year One adaptation. As for the actual Batgirl movie...on one end, I can understand why they would be cautious about doing just any character from the DCU in these movies--they need to make up the budget for these things, after all. But...Batgirl's a bit of a different case. Only Batman and Superman really sell? Well, Batman and Robin are big supporting roles in that story! That just doesn't really make any sense.

From an interview recently.
QUESTION: There’s been a lot of internet banter regarding the discontinuation of the DCU series based on quotes attributed to an interview in Calgary with you. True or false? BRUCE TIMM: Kinda false. First of all, it wasn't an actual one-on-one interview -- quotes were taken out of context from longer answers I gave on a panel at the Expo. Bottom line: the DCU films are definitely continuing. We've got projects lined up for the next two years at the very least – lots of films in different stages of development and production. I know there are a lot of rumors circulating about future films. Some are true, some are not. I'll tell you this much – anyone at our DCU/Batman: Under the Red Hood panel at Comic-Con will walk away with a very clear picture of the direction we're taking the DCU animated movies in the coming year.
So what I was taking about up top was from the Calgary interview closing notes. I was stating another man's opinion. Though he made it read as fact. I'm sorry. BUT 2 more years of films. That is good news.
